MUMTAZ CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION SOMALIA is a non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit organization founded on 15th October 2021. Our mission is to enhance the living conditions of children in Somalia by upholding International Human Rights, with a focus on relief and development for war-affected communities and families who have been separated. MCF is dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk children and families, particularly in the Southwest state of Somalia, enabling them to pursue their future development goals.

• To uphold and implement the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children, especially during emergencies.

Our Work

Quality Care

Every child has the right to quality care, defined as a safe and nurturing environment that allows them to thrive. MUMTAZ CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION collaborates with communities, states, and the national government to create loving environments for children in need, aiming to prevent family breakdown for their well-being. When children can no longer live with their families, we work with local institutions and partners to provide them with the quality care they deserve.

Protecting Children in Emergencies

Children are particularly vulnerable during emergencies, and MUMTAZ CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION is dedicated to acting swiftly to protect and care for these children. Our long-term presence at national and local levels allows us to safeguard their rights and keep families together during crises. We remain committed to assisting them through recovery and development initiatives.

How We Respond

MCF employs specialized personnel in child protection and care, focusing on unaccompanied, separated, or street children. We offer child-friendly spaces, psychological support, and family reunification services. To prevent family separation, we provide support in health, food, nutrition, shelter, education, and hygiene, tailored to the specific needs of each family.

MUMTAZ CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION’s actions during emergencies adhere to international humanitarian laws and the Humanitarian Imperative, guided by the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.

Advocate for Children’s Rights

MCF believes in equal rights for all children to care and protection and a life free from abuse and harm. We actively defend and promote these rights for Somali children, collaborating with educated individuals and partners to improve laws, policies, and practices. By advocating for their rights, we strive for a future where all children can contribute responsibly and productively to their nation.

Child Safeguarding

As a national organization that works with children at risk of losing parental care, MUMTAZ CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION confronts widespread child abuse and neglect, exacerbated by poverty and harmful cultural practices. We strictly prohibit any form of child abuse, exploitation, or violation of rights, creating a protective environment for every child in our programs. Our Child Protection Policy emphasizes awareness, prevention, reporting, and response, ensuring that every reported concern is addressed promptly.

• Street children at risk of drug addiction.
• Children in female-led households due to family separation.
• Orphans who have lost one or both parents.
• Families unable to provide basic needs such as food, water, healthcare, shelter, clothing, and education.
